Content Description: In late 1776 Navy Captain Barry volunteered for service in the Continental Army. Under militia commander General John Cadwalader, he served with a company of Marines at the battles of Trenton and Princeton. General George Washington also chose him to be his courier to convey wounded prisoners through enemy lines to General George Cornwallis.
