Oliver Hazard Perry built his fleet of ships with the assistance of Adam and Noah Brown. Using the green timber that grew beside Lake Erie, the Browns built Perry two 20-gun brigs, Lawrence and Niagara, as well as a flotilla of smaller crafts. This copper spike from one of Perry's ships is stamped "US."
